BAFTAs 2018….women in black

Stars dressed in black for the 71st British Academy Awards at the Royal Albert Hall last night showing solidarity for the anti-sexual harassment campaigns including the Time’s Up movement. But the sombre attire didn’t detract from some beautiful hairstyling.

Angelina Jolie was elegant as ever with a smooth and classy bun. Dylan Brittain Artistic Director and salon owner of Rainbow Room International advises “To get the look, pull all your hair back off your face and brush into a ponytail. After securing your ponytail with an elastic, twist the hair and wrap it around the base of the ponytail to create your bun and secure with hair pins. Finish off the look by using a hair oil or serum to smooth any flyaways or fizz and give the hair shine and then spray the hair with hairspray to give the hair hold and keep it extra sleek.”

Margot Robbie sported a long, blunt bob, with soft, undone waves. Jay Birmingham, owner of Jay Birmingham hair describes how this look can be created: “To get this look at home dry your hair using a large paddle brush and ensure your hair is flat to your scalp at the roots – you don’t want to create any volume around the crown of your hair. For a super easy way to create this style, leave your hair slightly damp and tie into loose plaits. Leave this in for as long as possible and when you take your hair down it will have formed a natural looking loose wave with minimal effort! Alternatively, dry your hair entirely and use a curling wand to style your hair in alternate directions to create that ‘undone’ look.”

Rochelle Humes embraced her natural texture and opted for a soft tousled look. Lewis Moore, owner of Lewis Moore Salons gives his tips for how to ditch chemically treated hair and embrace natural curls, “How you care for your hair during this process is crucial and has never been easier than with the JOICO Curl range. To get Rochelle’s style, use the JOICO Nourished Conditioner to prep hair for styling and reduce any frizz. Spread some JOICO Curl Defining Contouring Foam Wax through damp hair to add some clarity to your curls and finish with a mist of JOICO Reanimating Mist to refresh and reduce flyaways. Dry your curls with a diffuser and use gentle pressing, squeezing motions to soak the moisture from your hair and leave you with gorgeous, natural curls.”

And our own HAIR favourite, Jennifer Lawrence, who wowed the audiences with her effortlessly elegant, slightly wet-look ‘do. “Her hair was styled in a middle parting and tucked behind her ears with her long blonde locks left laying down her back. Her hair was kept very sleek and straight to give it that ‘wet look effect’, almost as if it was left to air dry. To get the look, style your hair from wet and use a gel or serum applying sparingly to the hair and combing through. To add extra glamour to your look, wear a bright red lipstick just like Jennifer.” Leah Durrant, owner and Director of Leah Durrent Hair Salon and Beauty Re:treat.
