New hue, new you!

Hello Hairlets,

I hope you’re all well on this wonderfully autumnal eve?

I’ve never been one to think long and hard about the damage that dying my locks various colours could do. From pink, to bleach blonde and then red… my tresses were always sure to be near breaking point, but that had never entered my mind!

Now, since starting at Hair, I’ve gone from being pretty much clueless to having an abundance of insider knowledge, for which I am eternally grateful. With that in mind, I decided it was time to lose my signature red hue – which my Editor Emily had pretty much begged me to keep, but after a year of constantly changing my mind it was time to bite the bullet – I was going brunette.

Luckily, Jacquenline Tarlier of Eleven Mayfair was on-hand to help with this monstrous task – who knew that red was such a difficult colour to change? First, we started with a lengthy consultation on the colour and cut. I was happy to lose a little of the length, but want to keep my sweeping side fringe and settled on a rich, dark brown similar to Zooey Deschanel, as this would suit my fair complexion and light green eyes.

The next step was to inject some life into my limp locks with the help of JOICO. First up was the Treatment Balm which aimed to replenish the moisture lost in my hair and soothe, smooth and increase strength after 10 minutes. I then had two rounds of K-PAK Revitaluxe for a further 30 minutes, which hydrated and strengthened my locks. The treatment was extremely rich and just what my looks were looking for. It also created a strong foundation for my new hue!

Following this it was time for the colour correction, which managed to tone down my locks enough for a brown shade and colour gloss to be applied to amp-up the shine.

Finally, not only was my hair one gorgeous shade of brown, it was super shiny and glossyMiss Deschanel herself would be envious and I couldn’t have been happier! Armed with a collection of JOICO K-PAK goodies, me and my new ‘do left with a spring in our step/cuticle.

If you want to change from a red shade, remember to seek the help of the professionals… we get numerous letters and emails at Hair HQ regarding colour correction nightmares, and as someone who has gone through the process I couldn’t recommend nor thank Jaqueline enough!
