These days hair care routines involve much more than just cleansing and conditioning! With so many different serums, oils and moisturising creams for your hair now on the market, our hair care routine is becoming much like our skincare routine.

One important hair lesson we can borrow from our skincare routine is exfoliation. Although exfoliating the hair may seem odd, it’s extremely important and does the world of good for both your hair and scalp, by keeping the scalp healthy, reducing oil production and promoting hair growth. Invest in a good scalp exfoliator and try to use this once a week to once every two weeks to keep your hair and scalp looking and feeling healthier and shinier.

Another lesson we can borrow from our skincare routine is multi-masking. Like different areas of your skin, different areas of your hair have different needs and requirements and multi-masking allows you to target these areas all at the one time. For example, with skincare you may use one mask for your oily nose and a different one if you have dry areas on your cheeks. The same goes for hair masks, you may use a lighter mask on your oily roots that won’t weight the hair down and a more nourishing mask on the ends of your hair that are dry and damaged.

It’s also always been advised to use UV protection on your skin whether you use a moisturiser that protects from UV damage and/or a foundation that protects from UV damage. UV protection is just as important to use on your hair as it is your skin and a spray that protects against UV damage will help to keep the hair in its most pristine condition and reduce any further damage being done to the hair.

Once you have finished your skincare routine, the last step is to apply a primer before doing your makeup and this is the same when it comes to hair care. After cleansing, conditioning and adding a hair oil or serum to your hair to give it moisture, you may then use a hair primer to prepare your hair for heat styling and allow your hairstyle to last longer, just like a primer would help your makeup to last longer! Hair primers are a fantastic new hair invention and are also great for giving your hair a smoother, more healthy and shiny appearance.
